Getting Furloughed
Welp, I got furloughed! I’ve been working in the hotel industry for almost a decade and now it bit me in the ass!
Not only that but I was in the middle of my Dave Ramsey paying-off-my-debt year. You know the year when you try to get a little mature and think about drinking cheaper wine, while crying over all the debt you made in your early twenties?…Yeah, that one!
I started September of 2019. My boyfriend and I both decided it will be time to pay off our past stupidity with the rip-the-bandiad-off technique. I picked up shift in so many department at the hotel and he picked up bartending and working as a chef on the weekends for a private chef. Both working close to 70 hours a week our plan was working great.
Then COVID 19 kicked me in my invisible balls like no other.
First, I panicked, then I started eating nutritious food like doughnuts, ice cream and drank water looking but tequila tasting drinks, like margaritas. …Then I gained ten more pounds and started crying everyday.
Then I realized what a bitch I was, playing the “poor me” bullshit while people are fighting for their lives in the hospital.
So, I came up with a few things to make some money and keep my mind in the “sane” zone.
Money Flow:
- Postmates. -I don’t hate it! I worked it a couple summers ago and honestly its better than doing nothing. I average about $70-$80 a day. Also other delivery services are good like GRUBHUB and DOORDASH
- Instacart -better tips….I think
- Offer up, Letgo, Facebook Marketplace– Watching Tidying Up on Netflix made me do it! I organized the shit out of my place. Some things I posted to sell some I dropped off at Goodwill.
- Stripping-Nah, just kidding, maybe if I looked like JLo……but I eat donuts.
Keepin’ it sane
- Writing my script– My dream career is in the movie business but since it hasn’t happened I decide to learn screenwriting, and I love it!
- Doing P90X– I hate it….I wouldn’t, but I am so out of shape and my cardio is so bad
- Do yoga- I fart a lot during….but I do it
- Cooking – I don’t hate it but I get hangry by the time its done.
- Watch “how to” videos– cheapest way to learn things. Last year I painted my whole house and remodeled the kitchen.
- Taking the dogs on walks-I have to, they are getting fat too.
- Binge watching old sitcoms on Netflix/Hulu– Fraiser’s, Gilmore Girls, Scrubs, Private Practice, Futurama, Parks and Rec.
- And my favorite, listening to podcasts-Dave Ramsey for sure and anything that interests you.
So far, these are the things that I have come up with. I hope I can go back to work soon, but I also hope my agent will call me telling me that Tarantino want me in his movie.
The struggle is real…. the struggle is Dóra
